Roland TR-06 Manual

TR-06 Drumatix Owner's Manual

Introduction

The TR-06 can operate on batteries or on USB bus power. If you are using batteries, insert four AA batteries, making sure that the batteries are oriented correctly.

If you handle batteries improperly, you risk explosion and fluid leakage. Make sure that you carefully observe all of the items related to batteries listed in "USING THE UNIT SAFELY" and "IMPORTANT NOTES" (leaflet "USING THE UNIT SAFELY").

When turning the unit over, be careful so as to protect the buttons and knobs from damage. Also, handle the unit carefully; do not drop it.

When the batteries run low, the indication "Bt. Lo" appears in the display. Replace the battery as soon as possible.

The power to this unit will be turned off automatically after a predetermined amount of time has passed since it was last used (Auto Off function). If you do not want the power to be turned off automatically, disengage the Auto Off function. To restore power, turn the power on again.

Using the TR-06 in conjunction with the DK-01 Boutique Dock (accessory) For installation/removal/angle adjustment, refer to the DK-01's Owner's Manual. When handling the sound module during angle adjustment or installation, take care not to get your finger caught between a movable part and the body of the unit. If using this unit where children are present, be sure to provide adult supervision and guidance.

Playing the TR-06 via MIDI or USB You can also play the TR-06 via MIDI or USB. For details, refer to "Connecting Your Equipment."

Connecting Your Equipment

To prevent malfunction and equipment failure, always turn down the volume, and turn off all the units before making any connections.

Label Jack/Port Description
A Micro USB (○) port Use a commercially available USB 2.0 cable (A-microB) to connect to your computer. Used for USB MIDI and USB audio data. Install the USB driver from the Roland website (https://www.roland.com/support/). Do not use a charge-only micro USB cable.
B [VOLUME] knob Adjusts the volume.
C PHONES jack (Stereo mini) Connect headphones (sold separately) here.
D OUTPUT jack (Stereo mini) Connect to your amp or monitor speakers.
E MIX IN jack (Stereo mini) Audio input jack. Sound from the connected device is output from the OUTPUT and PHONES jacks. You can also apply the TR-06's internal effect to this sound.
F MIDI connectors Connect to another MIDI device using commercially available MIDI cables to play in synchronization.

Turning the TR-06 On/Off

G [POWER] switch — Turns the power on/off.

After making connections, turn on the power in the order: TR-06 first, then the connected system. When turning off, power off the connected system first, then the TR-06.

Before turning on/off, always turn the volume down. You might hear some sound when switching on/off — this is normal.

What are patterns and tracks?

Recorded performance data is called a "pattern." The TR-06 has 128 patterns and eight tracks in which you can place patterns. Construct a song by arranging patterns in tracks. Patterns are organized into pattern groups 1–8, each with patterns 1–16.

2 — INST Edit Section

Controller Explanation
INST knobs Adjust the volume of each instrument
[ACCENT] knob Adjusts the strength of the accent

3 — TRIGGER Section

Controller Explanation
TRIGGER IN jack Connect via mini-plug (mono) to a device with a TRIGGER OUT jack (e.g., TR-08). When a plug is inserted, the TR-06 disconnects from its internal clock and advances steps on each trigger pulse. Can also be used to execute the Random function or Note Shift function (configure via menu).
TRIGGER OUT jack Outputs a trigger when each instrument is heard
TRIGGER OUT [AC] jack Outputs a trigger at the timing of ACC, or at the beginning/end of the pattern. Configure the timing via the menu.

Use a "mini-plug (mono)" cable for the TRIGGER section jacks. Do not use a "stereo mini-plug" cable — it will not work correctly.

4 — Effect Section

Controller Explanation
[DRIVE] knob Adjusts the overdrive. Fully left = off. Use system settings to select drive type. With [MENU]: sets instrument TUNE. With [STEP LOOP]: turns instrument DRIVE on/off.
[TIME] knob Specifies the delay time. Delay type changeable via menu. With [MENU]: sets instrument DECAY. With [STEP LOOP]: turns tempo sync on/off for delay.
